THE FROZEN CHOSIN SHOOTOUT
was held on February 16th 2008. The day started out the temperature
was about 42 degrees and continued to warm up to 68 degrees F, the
sky was overcast. This was a change from the cold windy weather we
had in 2007. By 9:45 AM the last competitors arrived. The match began
with sighters for the rifle match at 10:15 AM. The course of fire
was 200 yards consisting of 40 rounds, 10 standing slow fire, 10 sitting
rapid fire, 10 prone rapid fire and 10 prone slow fire. There were
16 competitors participating in the rifle match, 15 M1 Garands and
1 Mosin Nagant M1891 rifle. When the shooting was over Barry Postell
was the victor for the second year in a row, shooting 364-3x. This
was a close match because Nathan Smith also shot 364-3x but Barry
posted a higher Standing Score. William McCraw finished third posting
352-3x.
The carbine match started about 1:00 PM the same course of fire as
the rifle match except the distance was 100 yards. We had only 4 competitors,
Sam Summey last year’s winner competed to defend his title, Richard
Wade called the match. When the shooting was over Andrew Perry had
won posting a remarkable 93.8% score of 375-7x, second place was Kevin
McCarson with 363-3x, third was John Duncan posting 359-6x. The match
concluded by 2:30 PM.
This was the best turn out for any match we have had in the past two
years. If you are a rifle competitor and wish to start shooting high
power rifle again the regular 2008 season starts Armed Forces Day
May 17, 2008.
